The double blink works well for the character situation. It may be a bit fast? Some of the frames could be held for two frames and compare how well it 'reads'.How about posting a standard 'vanilla' single blink as well with a comment about, if you prefer a 2, or even 3, frame eyes closed hold? It would be interesting to know how you put a blink together working at game frame rate of 30fps.
